My First Set of Blisters!

The transition to the new house is almost complete. All of our stuff minus 1 set of queen mattresses, a mountain bike and a safe have made it to the new abode. That is a relatively random collection of items, I know, but that is what was left the day I lost my steam moving furniture and have not been back.

Inside and out things are really starting to take shape! I spent the better part of a day doing yard work and came away with two nice battle scars. (blisters) Then I spent the next 3 days trying to figure out what was wrong with the cord feeder on the weed eater I borrowed from Easy. I still have not figured out its malfunction, I am assuming user error, so I returning it to its rightful owner for further evaluation. Heidi had her septum surgery on her nose last Tuesday so I attacked unpacking everything last week on my own. Apparently carrying boxes and furniture becomes more difficult with every passing decade! The silver lining on this solo mission was allowing my ocd to flourish and most everything is evenly spaced and aligned...

Off the subject Heidi and I are celebrating our 5 years together today August 13. It is a date that should be easy to remember for me since it all began Friday the 13th, 2004 (that should of been my first sign!) Teasing. It has been a fun and exciting time with bumps and bruises (as one would expect) to go with plenty of smiles. My "roommate" as I like to refer to her (She does not care for it much) has kept my on my toes and much years younger. She has been a great friend and companion and I look forward to many more years in the future...

Are you for real?

This is a story from fox.com:

It sounds like the classic science movie "The Abyss" — only in Russian.

The Russian Navy has declassified its records of UFO encounters, many of which take place in or around water, reports the Web site of the English-language Russian news channel Russia Today.

"They are most often seen in the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, in the southern part of the Bermuda Triangle, and also in the Caribbean Sea," said one naval intelligence officer quoted by the Web site.

Another incident cited involved six unknown objects that followed a nuclear submarine in the Pacific. When the sub surfaced, so did the objects — which then lifted themselves out of the water and flew away.

In perhaps the most compelling account, military divers in Siberia's Lake Baikal, the world's deepest lake, encountered "a group of humanoid creatures dressed in silvery suits" at a depth of 160 feet. Three humans died during the ensuing chase.

Look for Triple Pass of Shuttle, Station and Progress Tonight

Following the predicted undock of STS-127 from the station today, if the sky is clear tonight, we in Houston should be able to see STS-127, followed by the station and the Russian Progress 34P, flying in a line nearly vertically overhead from northwest to southeast beginning at 9:12 p.m. through 9:18 p.m. Each spacecraft will fade into Earth's shadow at an elevation of 26 degrees. Enjoy this spectacular show brought to you by the world's space programs!

Moving Mountains

We started really moving into our house this weekend, even though we closed on it a month ago. We got our first surprise when Best Buy informed us the day before our appliances were to arrive, that our fridge is over a month backordered. I am not really sure why they waited until the day before to let us know, but I hope to get some answers tonight after work. I thought about sending Heidi in to "lay down the law," but after "listening" to her take on the situation I think I will save myself the bail money and handle it myself.

The next thing I noticed is that it is incredible, being a "Brand New" (2 Year Old) house, how many small things I find that need repairs, some fixing, or touch-ups. Maybe it is not such a great thing be to OCD and pay so much attention to all these small details. My illness is here to stay so I better clear my calendar and apply for a Lowe's credit card because my to do list has grown exponentially this weekend.

This weekend, all in all, feels like a success. We caulked all the holes in the masonry board where they hung windstorm panels for Hurricane Ike (But the color of the caulk does not match the window trim, yet) and fertilized the yard just time to catch that inch of rain we got last night. As much as I LOVE the landscaping, I can't help but wonder if I have bitten off more than I can chew (I did at one point call a sago palm a cactus. lol)

The house is slowing becoming more liveable. Our Samsung washer/dyer and Heidi's (That was one of her demands) Tempur-pedic were delivered this weekend so it is starting to fill out and we had the carpets shampooed because the prior owner had a dog and we would like to avoid a "turf war" with our girls (Bambi and Chloe.) On a positive note I slept like a baby last night and we are looking forward to making more progress this week.

Houston We Have A Problem

So we just received word that just about everyone in the Flight world will be on call this weekend to work ground testing of repair techniques and options for addressing foam damage to the Thermal Protection System (TPS) of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. In the event the damage is deemed to serious and can not be repaired to a level that would provide proper thermal protection for re-entry then all 13 current Astronauts in orbit would live in the International Space Station until another shuttle could be prepared for launch. This is serious business considering the agency is down to three vehicles and virtually can not withstand another critical loss of the crew and vehicle. Stay tuned a press conference is just now kicking off, but my gut says this is going to be pretty serious.

My first post..

So my cousin Liz has her own blog on this site which I found very entertaining and it inspired myself to start one of my own, hopefully someone finds it enjoyable.
